Scavenger Hunts are one of my favorite activities for the kids. This activity loses zero cupcakes due to its simplicity for the parent, and the skills it helps the children build. There is zero clean up, it is a great Science / Nature project, and an awesome team builder (if the kids are divided into small groups). However, I would recommend it to be structured as a timed activity based on the ages of the child to avoid potential frustration. Especially since all of the items in the list may not be in your assigned area. I hope you guys like this one!
This activity promotes the development of the following skills:
1.) Gross Motor- Climbing hills, equiptment, bending, squatting, running, walking etc.
2.) Social- Collaborating as a group, being playful with friends and participating in a healthy competition (if set up that way).
3.) Emotional- Managing frustration while looking for items, exercising patience, managing emotions associated with a win or loss in the game. (if set up as a competition), Build Self-Esteem through the completion of a task, express individuality through creativity via photography.
4.) Cognitive- Learning about nature and the items on the list.
5.) Ocular Motor- Viewing items through a screen and capturing still images.
